Ministry of Tourism identified 17 sites in 12 clusters for Iconic Tourist Sites

Ministry of Tourism identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for the development of Iconic Tourist Sites. This information was declared by Shri Prahlad Singh Patel – Minister of State (I/c) of Culture and Tourism.

These Iconic tourist sites are –  Taj Mahal & Fatehpur Sikri (Uttar Pradesh), Ajanta & Ellora (Maharashtra), Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort & Qutub Minar (Delhi), Colva (Goa), Amer Fort (Rajasthan), Somnath & Dholavira (Gujarat), Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh), Hampi (Karnataka), Mahabalipuram (Tamil Nadu), Kaziranga (Assam), Kumarakom (Kerala) and Mahabodhi Temple (Bihar).

Bharti Airtel launched the Wi-Fi calling service for its subscribers. The service is currently rolling out in Delhi-NCR, gradually implemented in other cities.

EEPC celebrates 50th year of Engineering Exports Awards

  • EEPC celebrates the 50th year of Engineering Exports Awards. They complete 50 years of rewarding exporters and 111 winners given national awards for 2017-18 across eight categories in over 32 product panels.
  • Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Minister of State Independent Charge of Civil Aviation and Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, gave away the Engineering Export Promotion Awards (EEPC) for the year 2017-2018 at a function in New Delhi.
  • The next year India’s engineering exports will reach the target of USD 1 trillion.

Ministry of Tourism sanctioned a project in Sri Anandpur Sahib under its Swadesh Darshan Scheme

  • The union government formulated a special action plan for the development of tourism in Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme.
  • Ministry of Tourism, under its Swadesh Darshan scheme, sanctioned a project Development of Heritage Circuit: Anandpur Sahib – Fatehgarh Sahib – Chamkaur Sahib – Ferozpur –Amritsar – Khatkar Kalan – Kalanour – Patiala in Punjab for Rs.99.95 crore in the year 2018-19.

MoCA invites bids for the fourth phase of UDAN Scheme

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has invited bids after the launch of the fourth phase of UDAN in December 2019.
  • It invited bids for 3 unserved airports/airstrips in Andaman & Nicobar Island and 1 underserved airport/airstrip in Lakshadweep Island.
  • The aim is to focus on the connectivity of the Islands under UDAN 4.0. Under the fourth phase of the scheme, MoCA is to provide additional Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of around 25% to the airlines.

India climbs one spot to 129th Human Development Index

  • According to a report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India climbed one spot to 129 among 189 countries in the 2019 human development index.
  • In India, 27.1 crore people lifted out of poverty from 2005-06 to 2015-16.

  • Abu Dhabi is selected as the world’s leading Sports tourism Destination for the seventh consecutive time.
  • The decision was made at the 26th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) that is being held in Muscat, Oman.

WADA bans Russia from all major sporting events

  • The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned Russia for a four-year term from all major sporting events.
  • Under the ban, the Russian national flag and anthem will not be allowed at events such as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics and football’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

  • Human Rights Day is observed on 10 December every year. The day aims to recognize and empower human rights.
  • The day includes social, economic, cultural rights and international commitments on civil and political rights.
