About TNPSC – Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission:
Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is a department of Tamil Nadu – responsible for managing the recruitment of professionals into Tamil Nadu State Public service. TNPSC was the successor of Madras Service Commission – it was first provincial public service commission in India and adopted its current name in the year 1970.

In 1923, the Indian Government established a public service commission to govern the salary structure of ICS (Indian Civil Service). Later, provincial governments allowed recruiting and exercising over the control of recruitment. Madras Presidency was the first province in India to establish its own service commission named the Madras Service Commission 1929. During the Year 1970, the Madras Public Service Commission was renamed as the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
TNPSC is headed by a Chairman and comprises fourteen other numbers, appointment by Honorable Governor of Tamil Nadu, in accordance with provisions of the Constitution of India. Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission is responsible to advise the government about the recruitment rules, principles to be followed during making recruitments, promotions, transfers and one to one services. TNPSC is responsible for recruiting candidates for the State, Subordinate and Ministerial Services. They also conduct departmental examination for government servants and national Ministry of Defense for admission to the school run by the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehra Dun.
TNPSC Secretory is responsible for its decisions, handling day-to-day administration, departmental promotion committees, oral tests for recruitment, etc. Controller of Exams is responsible for notifying and conducting recruitment and departmental examinations.
