Hindi – The 3rd most spoken language of the world

Ethnologue brought out a yearly database of living languages of the world since its establishment in 1951. The 22nd edition of the world language database Ethnologue reported that Hindi is the 3rd most spoken language of the world in 2019. English at the top of the list with 1,132 million speakers, and the Chinese Mandarin are in second position with 1,117 million speakers.

United by Emotion has been chosen as the motto of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has revealed the official Games motto: “United by Emotion”. The motto emphasises the power of sport to bring together people from diverse backgrounds of every kind and allow them to connect and celebrate in a way that reaches beyond their differences. 

North East Small Finance bank began its service and operation

NESFB is the first small bank of North India; On 16th Feb it has started his services. On 31 March 2017, Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RVGN) (North East) Microfinance Limited received the Small Finance Bank License from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

EAM Dr. S Jaishankar to inaugurated Indian Pavilion at 70th Berlin International Film Festival

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will inaugurate Indian Pavilion at 70th Berlin International Film Festival on Thursday in Germany. The festival will be held from 20 February to 1 March 2020 in Berlin, Germany.   India Pavilion will provide a platform to popularize Indian cinema in the overseas market and facilitate new business opportunities.

GoI to double the Milk Processing capacity

The Finance Minister stated that the Government looks to facilitate doubling of milk processing capacities from 53.5 million metric tonnes (MT) to 108 MT by 2025. This would help to increase the country’s per capita milk availability from the current about 394 grams per day.

It could be noted that India’s milk production has grown by more than 10 times since 1950.

Australia appoints Barry O’Farrell as the new high commissioner to India

Australia appointed former New South Wales Premier Barry O’Farrell as the next high commissioner to India. O’Farrell will succeed Harinder Sidhu. The announcement was made by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne. Mr. O’Farrell will also have non-resident accreditation to Bhutan.

UAE Approves Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Operation

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) of the United Arab Emirates approved the operation of the first unit of the Barakah nuclear power plant on Feb. 17. The power plant is the first atomic power station South Korea has built outside itself and is the only atomic power station in the Arab region.
